Applies to: TeamTrace Silent desktop app (macOS)
Audience: Administrators
Overview
This article explains how to install and configure the TeamTrace Silent app on a Mac, set the required system permissions, and confirm the tracker is working.
Important: The Silent app can only be installed on a user's system by an administrator from within the platform.
Prerequisites
- Administrator access to the TeamTrace web platform
- Administrator rights on the Mac where the app will be installed
- The user must already exist in TeamTrace under People
Installation Steps
Part 1: Download the installer
- Log in to the TeamTrace web platform.
- Go to My Profile and select Download Apps.
- Under Download TeamTrace Silent Desktop App, click the macOS download link.
- You are redirected to a GitHub page. Download the latest DMG version of the Silent app.
Part 2: Open the installer
- Double-click the downloaded DMG file to open it.
- macOS shows a prompt saying the file was downloaded from the internet and asks if you want to proceed. Click Open to confirm and complete the installation.
This prompt appears because the app is installed outside the App Store.
Part 3: Get the installation key
- In TeamTrace, go to Settings.
- Under Organization Setup, go to Productivity, then Global Settings.
- Copy the installation key.
Part 4: Configure the tracker
- In the TeamTrace Configuration Wizard, paste the installation key.
- (Optional) To include an employee code, go to the People tab, find the user you're installing for, and copy their People ID. Paste it into the wizard.
- Click Verify Credentials. A confirmation shows that verification is complete.
- Click Configure to finalize the setup.
- A system prompt says the application will now auto start. Click OK.
Required macOS Permissions
Activity tracking, screenshots, live screen and other features won't be available on the web platform until these permissions are set. All three must be enabled for accurate tracking.
Permission 1: Accessibility
- When the app auto starts, a pop-up asks you to allow accessibility permission. Click Open System Settings.
- Under Privacy & Security > Accessibility, TTSL (TeamTrace's Silent app) is already listed. Toggle it on.
- Enter the Mac's admin password and click Modify Settings.
- Open General > Login Items & Extensions. TTSL should now appear as an authorized application.
Permission 2: Location Services
- Go to Privacy & Security > Location Services.
- TeamTrace is already listed. Toggle the switch on.
Permission 3: Screen & System Audio Recording
- Go to Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
- Confirm TTSL is listed and its toggle is enabled.
Verify the Installation
- Open your TeamTrace account on the web.
- Go to Live People under Productivity to see the status of the newly added user.
- You can also check Live Screens and People Screenshots to monitor their activity.
Notes
- Without all three permissions, tracking features may not work correctly.
- The Silent app appears in macOS settings as TTSL.
- End users cannot install the Silent app themselves.
