Overview

This article explains how to download and install the TeamTrace standard desktop app on a Mac, using either the DMG or the ZIP method, and how to set the required system permissions.

Prerequisites

  • An existing TeamTrace account with access to the web platform
  • Your TeamTrace login credentials
  • The Mac's admin password, needed when changing system permissions

Download Options

Two files are available for macOS:

FormatDescription
DMGThe standard Mac installation format (latest release)
ZIPA .zip folder containing an .app file

Installation Steps

Part 1: Download the application

  1. Log in to your TeamTrace account on the web platform.
  2. Go to your profile section and click Download Apps.
  3. Under the Download TeamTrace Desktop App tab, choose the DMG or ZIP file.

Method A: DMG installation

  1. Locate the DMG file on the download screen. It reflects the latest release.
  2. Once downloaded, double-click the DMG file to open it.
  3. Because the app is sideloaded on macOS, drag and drop it into the Applications folder.
  4. Double-click the app from this screen, or open your Applications folder and search for TeamTrace.
  5. Double-click TeamTrace to begin. A system prompt says the app was downloaded from the internet and asks if you want to proceed. Click Open.
  6. The app launches. Log in and start your tracker.

Method B: ZIP installation

  1. Once downloaded, double-click the .zip folder to extract it.
  2. Double-click the .app file to launch it.
  3. A similar system prompt asks if you want to open an app downloaded from the internet. Click Open.
  4. Log in to your account and complete the permission setup below.

Required macOS Permissions

Activity tracking, screenshots, live screen and other features won't be available on the web platform until these permissions are set. All three must be enabled for accurate tracking.

Permission 1: Screen & System Audio Recording

  1. After you log in, a pop-up asks you to allow screen and system audio recording. Click Open System Settings.
  2. Under Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording, TeamTrace is already listed. Toggle it on.
  3. Enter the Mac's admin password and click Modify Settings.
  4. When prompted to quit and reopen the app, click the prompt. TeamTrace relaunches.

Permission 2: Accessibility

  1. Open System Settings > General > Login Items & Extensions. TeamTrace should appear as an authorized application.
  2. Go to Privacy & Security > Accessibility. TeamTrace is listed with the required permission already granted.

Permission 3: Location Services

  1. Go to Privacy & Security > Location Services.
  2. TeamTrace is already listed. Toggle the switch on.

Notes

  • The macOS "downloaded from the internet" prompt appears because the app is installed outside the App Store.
  • Without all three permissions, tracking features may not work correctly.
  • The same permission setup applies whether you installed with DMG or ZIP.
